For Frances Brown, New Zealand

When waves from St Clairs

wash off Esplanade rocks, onto Rarotonga sand

they

link power

bear the weight of surfers, swimmers, toddlers dreams,

carry the colour of your eyes into Pacific currents

bring love,

truth and honesty to life,

i remember you.

when babies turn to teens, their angst reminding

me

of your patient smile, your listening heart, your gifted empathy,

i remember you.

when southern suns and sons

burn bright into Dunedin and other Island summers,

making way

for diamond skies and moonscapes so beautiful my heart aches when i look up,

no matter where i am,

i remember you.

Rest in Love Frances Brown.
